1st game at Warsaw’s Euro 2012 stadium scrapped
The Polish league president says he has canceled what was to be
the first match at the Warsaw stadium to be used for this year’s
European Championship due to police security concerns.
Andrzej Rusko said Wednesday he was worried about the security
of fans at the National Stadium, which opened on Jan. 29. Police
say they do not have sufficient communication inside the stadium to
guarantee security Saturday.
Polish League champion Wisla Krakow was to play Polish Cup
winner Legia Warsaw in a Super Cup match.
On June 8, Poland plays Greece at the stadium in the opening
match of the tournament Poland is co-hosting with Ukraine.
