In need of a quick rumor fix or two? How about five? Welcome to FOX Soccer's Rumor Redux. To start your week off on the right foot, we present you the best football rumors that Monday has to offer. We begin today's edition by congratulating David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy for capturing their third MLS Cup title last night. With Beckham's five-year contract set to expire next month, the England superstar was non-committal over his playing future, but did admit that he'll take some time to ponder his next move. That's great to hear Becks. Just remember one thing: you'll have a nice comfortable seat with the Rumor Redux family for the next couple of months. And with that, we move to the day's top football rumors, a list distilled from this morning's Paper Chase.
Vagner Love, F, CSKA Moscow
Rumor: headed to Juventus. Likelihood: low. The Brazilian forward continues to make the Rumor Redux rounds by demonstrating his top form with the Russian outfit this season. Though CSKA is currently battling for a knockout stage place in the Champions League, Love has made it known that he would like to try his luck with a bigger club in Europe. According to reports from O’Globo, Juventus have recently held talks with the player’s representative and CSKA officials in regards to a possible move in the winter transfer window. The same report suggests that the Serie A giants are willing to dish a €15 million offer for the ex-Palmeiras and Flamengo standout. Juventus’ manager Antonio Conte has made it a priority to land Love to his squad as soon as possible. However, the fact that CSKA’s in the middle of a Champions League and Russian Premier League run, makes it difficult for a move to go through.
Jose Manuel Jurado, M, Schalke 04
Rumor: headed to Internazionale. Likelihood: low. After being one of Inter’s prime objectives in the transfer window this past summer, Claudio Ranieri’s side looks ready to bid for the talented Spanish midfielder in January. Though clubs like Villarreal and Getafe have also expressed their interest in Jurado, Inter remains committed to land the former Real Madrid and Atletico footballer to their ranks; so much so, that they’re willing to offer a whopping €30 million to the Bundesliga squad. As reported by Itasportpress, Inter’s romance for Jurado will continue for the next few weeks until the transfer window officially opens. The huge question here is if Schalke’s prepared to let the 25-year-old leave Veltins-Arena during the middle of a league run. We don’t think so, but the rumor’s worth monitoring to say the least.
Lukas Podolski, F, FC Koln
Rumor: headed to Tottenham Hotspur. Likelihood: low. Despite the remarkable number of forwards at the club, Tottenham is looking to add another striker. Given that both Roman Pavlyuchenko and Giovani dos Santos could leave White Hart Lane in January, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has requested new faces for the club. As expressed in TuttoMercato, the London based side has set their eyes on the German international, whose impressive form at the Cologne club has allowed him to net 9 goals in the past 11 Bundesliga games. The report continues by mentioning that the deal hinges on Emmanuel Adebayor staying at Tottenham after the 2011-2012 campaign. If Spurs cannot secure a permanent move for the Togolese striker, Podolski will be center of the discussion come next summer. The former Bayern Munich forward has a similar salary scale as Adebayor, which could make it easier for Podolski to switch the Premier League should Man City deny Tottenham’s offer bid for the rented striker.
Nigel de Jong, M, Manchester City
Rumor: headed to Real Madrid. Likelihood: low. According to several reports from Spain, Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has insisted club officials to pursue the tough-tackling Dutch midfielder during the winter transfer window. The former Hamburg and Ajax footballer has fallen out favor from Roberto Mancini’s starting eleven at Man City and could be a valuable piece to Mourinho’s La Liga squad in the second-half of the season. De Jong’s frustration with the club is also compounded with his contract renegotiation, as City’s unwilling to increase his £55,000-a-week contract. Real’s mulling a £20 million offer for the 26-year-old come, but will also compete against Premier League giants Arsenal for the ‘Lawnmower’s’ services in January. Still, it’s too early to tell whether de Jong will leave Etihad Stadium, even with Mourinho’s persistence on another defensive midfielder for the Santiago Bernabeu side.
Carlos Tevez, F, Manchester City
Rumor: headed to AC Milan. Likelihood: low. What a surprise, another Tevez rumor report. This time, speculation from Italy suggests that Serie A giants AC Milan will enter the Tevez sweepstakes if the striker can prove he’s “mentally sound.” Yes, you read that correctly, “mentally sound.” Milan assistant coach Mauro Tassoti was recently quoted by the Daily Mirror as saying: "Tevez to Milan? He is a great player but we need to evaluate his condition and his head because as well as technical ability, you need to be mentally ready to play.” Call us crazy, but he highly doubt that Milan will be able to match Manchester City’s transfer price for the Argentine striker. Then again, crazier things have happened in the football world. We’re just not ready to claim this as a sure thing.
