Arsenal were hoping that a win would revive their top four dreams, not to mention lessen the heat on Arsene Wenger, while Manchester City really wanted to put some space between them and fifth place. Instead, it came out as a 2-2 draw. It could have been 5-5, with the match a true thriller, but the result is the same -- split points.
What did we take away?

It was pure chaos
Manchester City featured one out and out central midfielder, while Arsenal had no sense of shape or organization in their team. It was essentially just both teams chasing the ball and sprinting up and down at full pace. While that may not have pleased the managers, it made for terrific theater.

Pep went full Pep
Pep Guardiola is notorious for having little regard for fullbacks. If you're a good player at fullback -- see Philipp Lahm or David Alaba -- he'll move you to midfield. And who does he put at fullback? Anyone.
That's why Jesus Navas was at right back for City on Sunday. And while he had nervous moments, the Citizens survived just fine.

Sane and Aguero are unstoppable
Manchester City's attacking duo now have 13 goals in their last eight matches. They'll score on through balls -- like Sane did -- or from a sharp angle when the balls fall for them -- like Aguero did. Point is, they will score.

Coquelin and Xhaka still live on the edge
Both Fancis Coquelin and Granit Xhaka picked up yellow cards within 30 minutes and spent the rest of the match making tackles that could have netted them a red if anything went wrong, or pulling out of challenges for fear of being booked again. You wonder how much longer Arsenal can play a central midfield so undisciplined.

City still can't defend set pieces
The Citizens have been terrible defending set pieces all season so it's no surprise they dropped points at the Emirates because they got beat on one. Guardiola needs to sign central midfielders and centerbacks, but their problems on set pieces don't simply come down to personnel. There are players in that team who can defend them just fine. Guardiola needs to sort that out.

Fernandinho was City's hero
Navas at right back, in addition to City's general defensive problems, made for some problems for the visitors. That Fernandinho was the only recognized central midfielder in the team didn't help things, so the Brazilian had to be magnificent to make things function. Luckily for City, Fernandinho was that good. He tracked runners, maintained stability, pushed the ball forward and made a slew of last ditch tackles to keep Arsenal from scoring six or seven.

Neither team will be happy
Arsenal needed a win to make up ground on fourth place City, but the draw means they're still seven points back (albeit with a match in hand). Meanwhile, City had a chance to leap Liverpool, but also really stretch the gap between them and fifth place Manchester City. This was a match the rest of the top six were hoping for a draw from and that's what they got, leaving Arsenal and City without the win they both wanted.
Worse, both teams had stretches where they were dominant and will feel like they should have won.

No respite for Wenger
Do you think Arsene Wenger should go or stay? Regardless of where you fall, the Arsenal boss really could have used a win to ease some of the pressure on him. Instead, the draw will jsut keep the #WengerIn and #WengerOut sides battling, and the debate will continue to dominate the narrative at the Emirates.
