Padres vs. Rockies telecast sets 2014 ratings record

San Diego Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera (2) is congratulated by second baseman Jedd Gyorko (9) after scoring during the fifth inning against the Colorado Rockies at Petco Park.

Wednesday’€™s San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies game on FOX Sports San Diego set a new record for the highest-rated telecast this season, and the second highest overall rating for the network.

According to Nielsen Media Research, Wednesday’s 4-2 Padres win over the Rockies produced an average rating of 5.0, equating to nearly 54,000 households in the San Diego market, the highest this season and nearly a full rating point higher than the April 1, 2014 Padres Opening Day telecast.

Additionally, Wednesday’s rating came in just shy of the network’s highest rated telecast overall, a 5.2 rating recorded after the San Diego Padres faced the New York Yankees on August 4, 2013.

The Padres conclude their series against the Rockies this afternoon. Live coverage begins with Padres Live pregame show starting at 3:00 PM PST on FOX Sports San Diego.
