Machado homers in Baltimore homecoming as Padres beat O's 8-3
BALTIMORE (AP) — Manny Machado marked his return to Camden Yards with a performance reminiscent of his time with the Orioles, hitting a long homer and driving in two runs to help the San Diego Padres beat Baltimore 8-3 Tuesday night.
Machado played seven years with the Orioles before being traded last July, months before becoming a free agent. The third baseman signed a 10-year, $300 million contract with the Padres in February.
Back at the stadium where he made his major league debut in 2012, Machado received a standing ovation from many in the crowd of 21,644 before striking out in the first inning. In the third, however, he hit a shot off Jimmy Yacabonis (1-2) that traveled an estimated 455 feet and added a run-scoring single in the fourth.
The home run was Machado's 100th at Camden Yards. The 2010 first-round draft pick has a 12-game hitting streak and an RBI in a career-high eight straight games.
On a night the Padres snapped a three-game skid, Machado had plenty of help. Manuel Margot homered and drove in three runs, and Fernando Tatis Jr. and Francisco Mejia also went deep.
Rookie Logan Allen (2-0) allowed two runs and eight hits over six innings, a suitable encore to his win against Milwaukee in his major league debut last week.
Richie Martin homered and Hanser Alberto matched his career high with four hits for the Orioles, who trailed 7-2 in the fourth and lost for the 12th time in 13 games.
Baltimore's 22-57 overall record and 9-29 mark at home are both worst in the majors.
HOPE FOR FUTURE
Drafted by Baltimore with the No. 1 overall pick, Oregon State catcher Adley Rutschman was introduced to the crowd after the third inning. The 21-year-old Rutschman received an $8.1 million signing bonus. Asked in a news conference before the game if he might buy something extravagant, he replied, "Yeah, I really don't know. I'm pretty comfortable with my Honda Civic."

Padres: RHP Dinelson Lamet (elbow) will need at least one more rehab outing before coming off the injured list. Assessing his last outing, when Lamet gave up a run in five innings for Triple-A El Paso on Saturday, Padres manager Andy Green said, "His fastball was 95 to 100. It was alive and his stuff looked really good."
Orioles: LHP John Means (shoulder strain) has been throwing on the side and "should be good to go" this weekend, manager Brandon Hyde said. ... RHP Josh Lucas (shoulder strain) is going throw on the side a couple times before the Orioles decide whether to activate him. "He seems like he's healthy and doing well," Hyde said.

Padres: LHP Matt Strahm (2-6, 4.85 ERA) hopes to get his first win since May 21 in the series finale Wednesday afternoon. Strahm has allowed two homers in each of his last five starts.
Orioles: RHP Dylan Bundy (3-9, 4.59) has overcome a shaky start to register a 3.46 ERA over his last nine appearances. He is facing the Padres for the first time in his five-year career.
