Hedo Turkoglu’s Player Profile
Birthdate: March 19, 1979
Birthplace: Istanbul, Turkey
Drafted: 2000 (Kings)
Hidayet "Hedo" Turkoglu is one of the most seasoned players on the Los Angeles Clippers roster. He made his NBA debut back in 2000 when he was drafted by the Sacramento Kings after playing with Efes Pilsen in the Turkish Professional League. With 14 years of experience under his belt and having played in the playoffs for 10 of those 14 years, Hedo is someone that the other members of the team have the privilege to learn from. Turkoglu started his career with the Clippers back in January 2014 when he signed with them for the remainder of the 2013-2014 season. However, Turkoglu was sidelined for a few games towards the end of the year due to a hairline fracture in his lower back. This didn’t stop Coach Doc Rivers from extending a one-year contract to Turkoglu for the 2014-2015 basketball season.
This season, Hedo has stepped on the court in 28 games and is averaging 2.6 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.5 assists. Although Turkoglu is only averaging about 10 minutes a game, the Clipper brings a strong, veteran’s knowledge of the NBA into each and every play. Hedo has been known as "Mr. Fourth Quarter" because of the way that he is able to make shots in the most critical minutes of a game.
Hedo still holds close ties with his home country and even trains young athletes at his Basketball Talent Camp in Turkey during the summer months. He has also participated in Basketball Without Borders in Istanbul to help coach and counsel children through the sport that has been a huge part of his life.
