France’s Jean-Eric Vergne Looks Set to Become First Back-to-Back Champion
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – FOX Sports is live from Brooklyn for the doubleheader ABB FIA Formula E Championship season finale 2019 New York City E-Prix on July 13-14. Saturday’s Round 12 airs live on the FOX broadcast network, beginning at 3:30 PM ET, with Sunday’s Round 13 airing at 3:30 PM ET on FS1. Both events are available on the FOX Sports app.
Racing in Red Hook for the third consecutive season, the 2019 circuit, with the signature New York City skyline serving as a backdrop to the race along the Brooklyn waterfront, is the final stop of a season delivering 13 races in 12 cities across five continents.
Ralph Sheheen hosts FOX Sports’ coverage, with the Formula E broadcast team of Vernon Kay, Bob Varsha, Jack Nicholls and three-time Indianapolis 500 champion Dario Franchitti calling the action. Amanda Busick reports from the paddock. Former Formula One mechanic Steve Matchett delivers FOX Sports pre-race features from Brooklyn, and Saunders Carmichael-Brown also contributes.
“Seeing eight different winners from the first eight races was really a kick,” Varsha said. “I think it’s due to the introduction of the new ‘Gen 2’ race car, with more power and double the battery life. It put everyone back to square one in terms of set-up and race strategy, and the result was many new faces on the podium.
“More recently, the veterans seem to have found their game,” Varsha added. “In Berlin, for the first time, we saw three previous champions together on the podium: Jean-Eric Vergne, Lucas diGrassi and Sebastien Buemi. Vergne has won two of the last three races for his DS TECHEETAH team, he has a 32-point advantage over di Grassi in the standings. He won the finale in New York last season, so I think it’s going to be hard for anyone to prevent ‘JEV’ from going home to France as our first back-to-back champion.”
