During U.S. WNT media day today at New York City’s Twitter headquarters, FOX Sports unveiled a first-of-its-kind foosball table customized to the exact specifications of each player on the team’s roster. FOX Sports analysts Aly Wagner and Alexi Lalas presented each member of the team with their own personalized figurine. Figurines were scanned, 3D printed and hand painted for each individual.

Blue Table Painting is a pioneer of the emerging miniatures painting industry. Veronica Zak (former animator at NASA) was the lead artist on the FOX Sports figurine project, overseeing the team of four to complete more than 350 figurines within three weeks, working around the clock to match likenesses precisely.

Warrior Table Soccer was established in 2003 with the goal of producing a quality foosball table that would be affordable for most families. A team of seven foosball connoisseurs worked to create an incredible foosball table for the U.S. WNT featuring custom scanned and hand painted figures for every player on the team.

3D Printing:

It took one machine 24 hours a day to produce 100 players per week, during a four-week production window to create the foosball player molds.

The players were produced by 3D Printing Ally on a Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) machine out of nylon material. SLS involves the use of a high-power laser to fuse small particles of nylon powder into a mass that has a desired three-dimensional shape. The laser selectively fuses powdered material by scanning cross-sections generated from a 3-D digital description of the part on the surface of a powder bed. This material was used to ensure the players withstood the wear and tear of foosball gaming.

Lead 3D designer Meg Hamann worked to bring the scans to life creating a custom foosball player body that would work well from a playing perspective.
