Bio

A veteran of three decades in the sports broadcast industry with a broad and dynamic portfolio of experiences, Steve Beim now serves as director for FOX Sports’ presentation of the United States Golf Association’s championship events. In the production truck next to executive producer Mark Loomis, Beim is responsible for all camera operations and selects what shots will be used on the air during all broadcasts. Specializing in the organization of live, multi-camera events, Beim has called the shots for everything from the Indianapolis 500 to the Super Bowl pregame show, and boasts close to 30 years of experience in golf, having previously directed PGA, LPGA and Champions Tour telecasts.

Beim began his production career at Ohlmeyer Communications Company in 1984, honing his craft under the watchful eye of several industry veterans. He received his first directorial opportunity in 1987 for ESPN’s coverage of a PGA Tour event. Since then, he has worked continuously in the truck as a director on golf broadcasts, working for ABC, ESPN, NBC, The Golf Channel and TNT during that span. In 1991, he made his first venture into football and spent the next 18 years directing college games for ABC and ESPN, including presentations of the Fiesta, Orange and Sugar Bowl. In 2010, Beim signed on with the NFL Network, directing coverage of the NFL Scouting Combine and Draft, and remains the point man for extended pregame and postgame shows that accompany the channel’s hugely-successful Thursday Night Football games. Possessor of an impressive resume of motorsports experiences, he directed ABC’s Indianapolis 500 telecasts from 1994 to 2004, as well as the Brickyard 400 race from 1994 to 1999. Additional directing credits include the Super Bowl XLVII and XLVIII  pregame shows, The Belmont Stakes in 2006, and two Olympic Games.

Beim’s talents as a producer and director have not been limited to the arena of athletics. In 2000, he spent five weeks in the Sahara desert directing the two-hour FOX special, Opening the Tombs of 10,000 Mummies, and traveled to the Australian rain forest for a six-week shoot on the ABC reality television show I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! He also worked on shows that have aired on TBS, VH1 and CourtTV during his accomplished career.

Beim lives in Carlsbad, Calif., with his wife Linda and their 12-year old twin boys Owen and Cole.  When he’s not on the road working on his next assignment, he enjoys surfing with Cole and coaching Owen’s baseball team. He is also a graduate of the University of Southern California and avid fan of the Trojans’ sports teams.
