Yeo scratches Zidlicky from Wild’s lineup
THURSDAY’S STORY LINE: Marek Zidlicky is a healthy scratch tonight vs. Winnipeg. Yesterday the defenseman said he was willing to waive his no trade clause to go to New Jersey, the problem? The Wild never asked him to waive his no trade clause to go to New Jersey.
Mike Yeo said scratching Zidlicky is a coaching decision and that he made the decision before his face to face talk with Zidlicky. Every game is important for the Wild as they try to claw their way back into a playoff spot in the Western Conference and Yeo needs his players focused on the game.
“I don’t know what is going to happen what I can say is that it is quite obvious that focus wise it would be a pretty tough game for him to go out and perform the way we need him too,” added Yeo. “We are making the assumption that his head would not be in the right place to play this game tonight,” added Yeo.
According to Michael Russo of the Star Tribune, General Manager Chuck Fletcher, has several teams interested in the 35 year old defenseman. Still no trade has been made and Zidlicky is still a member of the Minnesota Wild.
When asked if he would play Zidlicky again, Yeo said “for sure”, but Yeo wants to know Zidlicky is all in before he can get back in the lineup.
“It would mean he would have to prove that like every one of our players that he is all in and every one of them that they are all in to what we want to do. If you do that and if you go out and show that night in and night out then absolutely. Anybody who is here we will treat them as part of the team,” added Yeo.
OTHER LINEUP NOTES: Cal Clutterbuck who has missed last game with a lower body injury skated with the team this morning. Yeo said Clutterbuck looked and felt good, but he is a game-time decision tonight. If Clutterbuck can’t go Jeff Taffe will be in the lineup. Cody Almond will be in the lineup tonight. Mike Lundin will be in for Zidlicky. Justin Falk will be a healthy scratch.
HE SAID IT: “I know that they are going through a lot of the same things that we are going through. You read some of the articles and quotes and they are very similar as well. So to be honest we have had enough of our own issues to occupy our thoughts lately, but certainly we are paying attention to what is going on over there and we know that we are going to face a desperate team, a team that is going to come in with a lot of urgency.” –Yeo on similarities between the Wild and Jets
