The Minnesota Wild will get a defensive boost for Tuesday night’s game at Vancouver.
Minnesota activated defenseman Jared Spurgeon from injured reserve Tuesday afternoon and placed forward Matt Kassian on waivers. Earlier in the day, the Wild had called up goaltender Darcy Kuemper from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League and sent down defenseman Marco Scandella.
Spurgeon, 23, started the season playing with Ryan Suter on the team’s No. 1 defensive pairing and had one assist in three games. He’s missed the last nine games with a lower-body injury. Kassian, 26, hasn’t appeared in a game this season for Minnesota. The big enforcer has been a healthy scratch with center Zenon Konopka serving as the physical edge for the Wild on the ice.
