The Arizona baseball team (23-9, 4-5 Pac-10) will host Washington State this weekend in a three-game Pac-10 conference series at Kindall Field/Sancet Stadium. The series begins on Friday at 6 p.m. as Arizona sends ace pitcher Kurt Heyer (5-0) to the mound. The teams will continue the series on Saturday at 6 p.m. and conclude the set on Sunday at Noon.
The Cougars (19-11, 3-3 Pac-10) took two of three from Arizona State last weekend before beating Seattle and Gonzaga on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. Freshman Brett Jacobs leads WSU with his .405 average, while sophomore outfielder Derek Jones looks like the team’s biggest power threat with his five home runs and 22 RBI. Right-hander Chad Arnold (3-1, 3.33 ERA) and lefty Spencer Jackson (3-1, 4.46 ERA) have been WSU’s top starters this season.
UA still boasts the Pac-10’s top team batting average (.351), thanks in large part to the productive trio of Jett Bandy (.438), Steve Selsky (.434) and Robert Refsnyder (.400). The Wildcats are also tops in the league when it comes to runs per game (8.4).
