Rogers, Saldivar earn All-Big Sky honors

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona senior Gabe Rogers was named to the All-Big Sky first team and senior Stallon Saldivar earned honorable-mention recognition on the  all-conference teams selected by the league head coaches on Monday.

“It feels good,” said Rogers. “I followed in the footsteps of a guy I looked up to in Cameron Jones. My senior year really made up for a lot of things that did not go my way my junior year. A lot of people had faith in me, including my team, family and (my fiancée) Jenne.”

Rogers has averaged 18.1 points per game, the best mark in the Big Sky Conference and 45th in Division I, and 20.1 points per game in conference games, also tops in the league. The Houston native is one of three seniors in Division 1 among the top 50 in scoring, Top 25 in 3-pointers made per game and top 60 in 3-point percentage. He joins Isaiah Canaan of Murray State and Shane Gibson of Sacred Heart in that group.

Rogers, who was an All-Big Sky second-team selection as a sophomore, scored in double figures in 19 of 20 Big Sky games and has 561 points on the season, tied for the second-best total in school history behind only Jones. He has made 93 three-pointers on the year entering the Big Sky Tournament.

Saldivar garnered his first all-conference honor with his selection to the honorable-mention team.

“It means a lot to me,” said Saldivar. “It is a team award as much as an individual accomplishment. I give my teammates all the credit, because without them I would not be here.”

Saldivar recorded the first triple-double in school history and the only one in Big Sky play this year on Feb. 9 against Eastern Washington with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. He averaged 6.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game for the season, including a league-best 5.4 assists in Big Sky play. He ranks second in the Big Sky in assists overall and 87th in Division I.
