New AD Stan Wilcox signs 5-year deal with Florida State
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — New Florida State athletic director Stan Wilcox has signed a five-year contract through August 2018.
Wilcox, who was previously an associate AD at Duke, will earn $510,000 annually at Florida State. His base salary is $225,000. He will also earn $285,000 from speaking engagements and public relations compensation.
“This is the best job in the country to me and certainly is considered by our profession to be among the top opportunities in college athletics,” Wilcox said in a statement. “My wife and I are pleased and humbled by the confidence FSU has already shown us.”
Wilcox’s salary is a large jump from the deal the school gave previous AD Randy Spetman, who earned $350,000. Spetman was reassigned to adviser and will continue to draw a salary until his contract expires in February.
And Wilcox is eligible for various incentive bonuses based on graduation rate, postseason play, ACC titles, national championships and Director’s Cup finishes.
There is also a $1 million buyout if he leaves for another NCAA school.
