Gophers have some big shoes to fill

The Minnesota Gophers basketball team will likely be without two starters when they face Virginia Monday in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge at Williams Arena at 6:00 Central.
Starting point guard Al Nolen, who is averaging 9.2 points, 4.2 assists and 2.8 steals per game, could miss a few weeks with a foot injury, according to Minnesota head coach Tubby Smith. Freshman Maverick Ahanmisi is expected to get the start.
Ahanmisi is only averaging 5.5 minutes per game, but the late spring signee has impressed Smith so far.
