TAMPA, Fla. — On Sunday, July 21, 2013, FOX’s Sun Sports will premiere the next episode of “Inside the Rays,” upon conclusion of the Tampa Bay Rays vs. Toronto Blue Jays game. This episode will feature the “Dominican Duo,” Joel Peralta and Fernando Rodney, and explore their tremendous impact on the Rays bullpen, as well as their unique journey that lead them to Tampa Bay.
Born in Bonao, Peralta began his baseball career as an infielder, before becoming a pitcher. He was released from the Oakland A’s in 1998 and knew he would have to work much harder to make it to the major leagues. The Anaheim Angels picked up Peralta, and there he developed a relationship with Rays Manager Joe Maddon. In December 2010, Peralta was signed by Tampa Bay. His workhorse ability has allowed him to appear in more games than any other American League reliever for the past two seasons.
Rodney, born in Samana, was selected by the Detroit Tigers in 1997. After making his Major League debut with them in 2002, he stayed for another 8 seasons before signing with the Anaheim Angels in 2010. Following two seasons with the Angels, Rodney became a Ray in January 2012, where he would have the best season a reliever has ever had in the history of the game.
