Former ASU basketball star James Harden is playing in the NBA Finals, and to honor the Sun Devil legend, FOX Sports Arizona will re-air four classic games from Harden’s 2007-08 season.
The intent of showing these games is not only to relive Harden’s tenure in maroon and gold but to celebrate his appearance in the 2012 NBA Finals as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Here’s a recap of the games that will be shown.
ASU beat Xavier 77-55 on Dec. 15, 2007: The Sun Devils hosted Xavier, then coached by Sean Miller, their highest-ranked nonconference foe since the 1980s. Coming into Wells Fargo Arena, Xavier was ranked No. 17 and had made the NCAA tournament in seven of the past 10 years. James Harden, at the time a freshman guard, had 16 points.
ASU beat USC 80-66 on March 1, 2008: The win over O. J. Mayo and the Trojans improved the Sun Devils to 18-10 overall and 8-8 in the Pac-10. Harden led the Sun Devils with 24 points, going 7 for 8 from the field and 9 for 10 from the free-throw line.
ASU beat UA 59-54 on Feb. 10, 2008: The win gave ASU a sweep of Arizona in a two-game season series for the first time since 1995. UA star and future NBA player Jerryd Bayless scored a career-high 39 points in this game, but it wasn’t enough to beat Harden and the Sun Devils.
ASU beat Stanford 72-68 on Feb. 14, 2008: With the Devils trailing the No. 7 Cardinal by 14 and Jeff Pendergraph fouling out near the end of regulation, Harden scored the last four points of regulation to force overtime, then scored the first eight of the extra session. He led the Sun Devils with 23 points in the win. SCHEDULE OF GAMES
