Former FSU coach Bobby Bowden plants spear in return

Coaching legend Bobby Bowden made his first return to Florida State’s Doak Campbell Stadium since his retirement as the Seminoles’ coach in 2009 — and he provided the highlight of the day by planting the traditional spear during the pregame ceremonies.

Bowden, who is the all-time leader in FBS history in wins and bowl wins, claimed two national titles at Florida State during his 40-year career, but planting the spear had to be a first:

Bowden returns to find his former program ranked No. 2 in the BCS standings and looking to make its own return to the BCS Championship game for the first time since he led the ‘Noles to the 2000 title game in a loss to Oklahoma.

Florida State boasts a 6-0 record and ranks in the nation’s top-10 in scoring offense and defense.
