The Minnesota Wild is one of six teams that will open the NHL season in Europe as part of the NHL Premiere. As other teams play in Stockholm, Sweden, and Prague, Czech Republic, the Wild and the Carolina Hurricanes will open the year in Helsinki, Finland.

The Wild has three native Finns on its roster: goalie Niklas Backstrom, captain Mikko Koivu and right wing Antti Miettinen. All three will show their teammates their home country when the Wild flies to Finland after its final preseason game Thursday, Sept. 30 to prepare for the NHL Premiere.
Both Minnesota and Carolina will have a “home” and “away” regular-season game as part of the NHL Premiere.
