Coyotes activate goaltender Smith
The Phoenix Coyotes have activated goaltender Mike Smith off injured reserve. Smith missed six games due to a lower-body injury, which he suffered on December 20 at Florida. In 28 games this season, the Kingston, Ontario native has a 15-10-3 record with two shutouts and a .920 save percentage.
To make room for Smith, goalie Curtis McElhinney was assigned to the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League. McElhinney appeared in two games with the Coyotes, recording his first victory with Phoenix on December 31 at Minnesota.
The Coyotes lost four of six games during Smith’s absence.
