Breaston has knee surgery

The Cardinals will be without wide receiver Steve Breaston for Sunday’s game at San Diego after the wide receiver underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn meniscus in his knee.

The normal recovery time would put Breaston out for the next two games (San Diego and New Orleans) and leave him in position to return against Seattle on Oct. 24, following the team’s bye week.

The news was first reported by Mike Jurecki of XTRA Sports 910.

Breaston is the Cardinals’ leading receiver with 14 catches for 183 yards and one touchdown. With Early Doucet also sidelined because of a sports hernia, the Cardinals receiving corps consists of all-pro Larry Fitzgerald and three rookies: Stephen Williams, Max Komar and Andre Roberts.

Onrea Jones, a free agent who was cut during training camp, was re-signed on Monday.
