Blue Jackets lose two more to injuries

The Blue Jackets keep losing games, and they keep losing players to injury, too.

Thursday’s 4-2 loss to the Dallas Stars in Nationwide Arena was marred by two long-term injuries to players who give the Blue Jackets a physical presence.

Defenseman Marc Methot was struck by the puck in the left side of his face early in the first period, suffering a broken jaw that will likely keep him sidelined for the rest of the season.

Adding insult to the injury, the puck glanced off Methot’s face and fell into the slot, where Dallas’ Alex Goligoski pounced on it for a 2-0 Stars lead.

Right winger Jared Boll played through two periods before the pain in his right foot became too intense.

He blocked a shot by Dallas’ Sheldon Souray only three minutes into the game and suffered a broken right foot. He, too, could be gone for the rest of the season.

Methot and Boll join a long list of Blue Jackets injured players. Defensemen James Wisniewski and Nikita Nikitin are close to returning, as is forward Mark Letestu, but they won’t be back for Saturday’s game in Minnesota.

NOTES, QUOTES

Columbus fails to win third straight

–The Blue Jackets haven’t won three straight games since Feb. 25, 2011, a span of 76 games. The Jackets had won two straight games for only the second time this season, but lost 4-2 to Dallas on Thursday in Nationwide Arena.

–The broken jaw suffered by Blue Jackets defenseman Marc Methot on Thursday will force the Jackets to recall a defenseman from minor-league Springfield before Saturday’s game in Minnesota. The Jackets are without defenseman James Wisniewski, Radek Martinek, Nikita Nikitin and Methot … arguably four of their top five defensemen.

QUOTE TO NOTE: “Just when you feel like the team is starting to get healthy, we lose another guy or two. It’s been like that all season for us. It’s been tough.” — Blue Jackets captain Rick Nash, after his team lost D Marc Methot and F Jared Boll in Thursday’s 4-2 loss to Dallas.

ROSTER REPORT

PLAYER NOTES:

–RW Vinny Prospal, who signed a one-year, $2.5 million extension with the Blue Jackets on Wednesday, snapped a 12-game drought without a goal when he scored against Dallas on Thursday. However, Prospal has a point in four straight games, a season high.

–C Derick Brassard continued his torrid stretch after a slow start to the season. He had two assists in Thursday’s 4-2 loss to Dallas, giving him seven goals, nine assists and 16 points in the last 22 games.

–D John Moore is taking on quite a load for the Blue Jackets because of the rash of injuries on the blue line. Moore played a team-high 26:34 vs. Dallas on Thursday, the second time in three games he’s exceeded 25 minutes.
