Badgers slip up in season finale

MINNEAPOLIS — Seniors

Tony Lucia and Mike Carman each scored twice as the Minnesota whipped No.

3 Wisconsin 6-1 on Sunday, earning the Gophers a split of the weekend

series.

Minnesota (17-17-2 overall, 12-14-2 in WCHA play) scored five

power-play goals in its final home game of the season. The Gophers

finished in seventh place and will open the WCHA playoffs at

fourth-place North Dakota on Friday.

The Badgers (22-9-4, 17-8-3) saw a four-game winning streak snapped.

They will host Minnesota State-Mankato in the a first-round playoff

series this weekend.

Friday: Wisconsin 3, Minnesota 2

Craig Smith scored his second goal of the game with 4:12 remaining to

help Wisconsin past Minnesota Friday night at Target Center.

The

Badgers scored twice in the second period to take a 2-1 lead, but Nick

Larson’s tip-in of a Kevin Wehrs shot tied the game for Minnesota early

in the third period.

The game was played before 14,422 fans in the first hockey game at Target Center since the 2000 WCHA Final Five.
