ASU eliminated from NCAA wrestling finals

The Arizona State wrestling team was eliminated from competition at the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, following losses from the team’s three remaining competitors on Friday.

Senior Levi Cooper was the only Sun Devil to earn a victory Friday, defeating Wisconsin’s seventh-seeded Connor Medbery, 3-2, in an upset in the second round of the consolation bracket to advance to the next round.

There, Cooper faced The Citadel’s Odie Delaney for a chance to stay alive but was pinned at the 5:18 mark of the contest and eliminated from the competition.

ASU’s two other wrestlers in action were both eliminated in their first matches of the day in the consolation bracket.

Illinois wrestler Tony Dallago defeated redshirt sophomore Kevin Radford at 184 pounds in a major decision, 12-3, while redshirt senior Jake Meredith was knocked out of the competition in a 6-3 decision to Maryland’s Christian Boley.

ASU will finish the competition with 4.0 points, though the team’s final placement will not be official until the conclusion of the weekend’s event.
