Arizona soccer shuts out, pulls away from Colorado
TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona women’s soccer team shut out Colorado 3-0 on Sunday to improve to 8-7-4 with just one match remaining in the regular season.
After a scoreless first half, sophomore Hannah Wong recorded Arizona’s first goal in the 64th minute off a pass from teammate senior Jazmin Ponce. Four minutes later, junior Julia Glanz scored her first goal of the season off a corner kick from Wong. And with four minutes remaining in the match, junior Alexandra Doller recorded the third and final goal for the Wildcats.
Arizona outshot Colorado 24-12, with Ponce leading the team with six shots, including three on goal.
“I asked the team to respond to some changes since our match on Friday, and they did that today,” Wildcats coach Tony Amato said. “We had a complete performance where we won a lot of individual battles and scored some great goals. It was an exciting day for us.”
In net, goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman recorded a season-high 10 saves for Arizona.
Colorado (12-5-2) was led offensively by Anne Stuller, who had a team-leading four shots, and Madison Krauser, who had two. Goalkeeper Annie Brunner recorded nine saves for the Buffaloes.
Arizona finishes the regular season on Thursday, when it hosts rival
Arizona State at 2 p.m. as part of the
Territorial Cup series.
