ACC basketball capsules: Thursday outlook

Thursday, Feb. 16

Virginia Tech (14-11, 3-7) at Florida State (17-7, 8-2)
When:  7 p.m.
Where: Tallahassee, FL, Tucker Center (12,400)
Fast break: After what happened at BC last week, it’s safe to say that the key every time the Seminoles take the court is to be ready to play, focused and intense. If that’s the case in this game, FSU will rock the Hokies. If not, it’s possible that Tech finds a way to score enough points to make it very interesting.
Forecast: FSU, 67-55.

Boston College (8-17, 3-8) at Maryland (14-10, 4-6)
When:  9 p.m.
Where: College Park, MD, Comcast Center (17,900)
Fast break: Maryland has a chance to host a game or two in the NIT, but it needs to take care of business against opponents such as BC. The NIT will be important for the Terrapins because it means more games under new coach Mark Turgeon, which is huge given Maryland could make a huge leap forward next season.
Forecast: Maryland, 72-60.

N.C. State (18-7, 7-3) at Duke (21-4, 8-2)
When:  9 p.m.
Where: Durham, N.C., Cameron Indoor Stadium (9,314)
Fast break: This has a chance to be a great game. State presents some matchup issues for the Blue Devils, but that works in reverse, too. Neither team is great defensively, so a high scoring, entertaining game is likely. The keys: State killing it on the boards and Duke hitting perimeter shots. Also, how does State handle playing in Cameron? Cameron hasn’t been much of a factor for Duke this season, but it could have an effect on this game.
Forecast: Duke, 81-74.

Andrew Jones’ record: 176-45
