Captain Pavel Datsyuk says he’s healthy, will play for Russia Thursday
SOCHI, Russia (AP) Captain Pavel Datsyuk says he is healthy for the Olympics after joining the Russian hockey team for its second full practice.
Datsyuk has struggled through the last two months with an apparent left knee injury with the Detroit Red Wings, but he intends to play in Russia’s Olympic opener against Slovenia on Thursday.
Datsyuk centered a line with KHL stars Ilya Kovalchuk and Alexander Radulov at practice Tuesday morning in Sochi. The captain skipped Monday’s first practice to rest after the long flight from the U.S.
Datsyuk missed more than a month of the Red Wings’ season after the Winter Classic, only returning for two games right before the Olympic break.
