Meb beats Hall in Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon

Olympian Meb Keflezighi won the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Half

Marathon in 1 hour, 3 minutes, 11 seconds on Sunday for his second

consecutive victory in his adopted hometown.

He beat fellow Olympian Ryan Hall, who struggled because of

plantar fasciitis in his left foot and finished in 1:05:39.

Keflezighi and Hall also finished 1-2 in the U.S. Olympic

marathon trials.

New Zealand Olympian Kim Smith won the women’s half marathon in

1:08:37, a time that would have placed her seventh among the

men.

Nixon Machichim of Kenya broke away with a little over two miles

remaining and won the men’s marathon in 2:10:03. Russia’s Alevtina

Ivanova also made a late burst and won the women’s marathon in

2:27:44. The men’s and women’s marathon champions each earned

$25,000.
