SportAccord, which represents Olympic and non-Olympic sports federations, announced Tuesday it will hold its annual convention in Sochi. The decision came despite global criticism of Russia following the downing of a Malaysian airliner over Ukraine.
The IOC has traditionally scheduled an executive board meeting during the convention, bringing more prestige and media coverage to the event.
IOC President Thomas Bach has maintained good relations with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
