Fourcade stretches lead with another biathlon World Cup win

OBERHOF, Germany (AP) Six-time defending champion Martin Fourcade claimed his second successive biathlon World Cup victory to extend his overall lead in the standings on Friday.

Fourcade shot cleanly and completed the 10-kilometer sprint in 25 minutes, 3.3 seconds, beating Norway's Emil Hegle Svendsen, who also shot cleanly, by 8.1 seconds.

Svendsen's teammate, Johannes Thingnes Boe, missed two targets but finished third, 10.2 back, ahead of Tim Burke of the United States and Boe's older brother Tarjei.

Fourcade, who has finished on the podium in each of the nine races so far this season, stretched his lead to 492 points.

The French biathlete is followed by the younger Boe on 460 and Slovenia's Jakov Fak, who was seventh in Oberhof, on 342.

Men's and women's pursuit races were scheduled for Saturday before relays on Sunday.
