Dominant Fourcade wins biathlon World Cup sprint
NOVE MESTO, Czech Republic (AP) Defending champion and overall leader Martin Fourcade won the men’s 10-kilometer sprint at a biathlon World Cup on Thursday.
The Frenchman overcame one penalty lap to cover the distance in 23 minutes, 48.0 seconds and extend his huge overall lead.
Fourcade edged Russia’s Anton Shipulin, who shot clean, to finish 1.6 seconds behind.
Emil Hegle Svendsen of Norway was third, 6.4 seconds back.
Fourcade leads overall with 348 points after winning five of the six individual races. Norway’s Johannes Thingnes Boe, who was fourth, has 236 points in second.
The women’s sprint is scheduled for Friday in the Czech resort.
Men’s and women’s pursuit races are on Saturday, with mass start races on Sunday.
