The Reds finalized their 25-man roster on Sunday in preparation for Monday’s opening day game against defending National League champion St. Louis, making three transactions on their 40-man roster to get there.

Infielder Jack Hannahan (shoulder) and right-handed pitcher Brett Marshall (finger) were placed on the 60-day disabled list, creating two openings, while reliever Pedro Beato was designated for assignment to make room for outfielder Roger Bernadina, infielder Ramon Santiago and reliever Trevor Bell. Bernadina, Santiago and Bell were non-roster invitees to spring training but earned spots on the active roster through a combination of their play and injuries to others.

As expected, the Reds placed eight players on the DL overall. Besides Hannahan and Brett Marshall, the put pitchers Aroldis Chapman, Mat Latos, Jonathan Broxton and Sean Marshall as well as catcher Devin Mesoraco and infielder/outfielder Skip Schumaker on the 15-day DL. Chapman, Latos, Sean Marshall and Mesoraco are retroactive to March 21, while Broxton and Schumaker’s DL calendar has a beginning date of March 22.

The Reds and Cardinals play at 4:10 p.m. Monday. Johnny Cueto will start for the Reds against Adam Wainwright of St. Louis. This will be Cueto’s third consecutive start on opening day.

The roster is made up of 12 pitchers and 13 position players. They recalled pitcher Curtis Partch and catcher Tucker Barnhart from minor league camp as part of their Sunday transactions.

To complete the moves to get to the 25-man roster limit, the Reds released infielder Chris Nelson to free agency and reassigned pitchers Jeff Francis and Jumbo Diaz along with outfielder Jason Bourgeois, infielder Kristopher Negron and catcher Corky Miller to Triple-A Louisville.
