Bengals sign QB Josh Johnson

The Bengals today signed QB Josh Johnson, an unrestricted free agent who was with the San Francisco 49ers in 2014 and with the Bengals in 2013.

Johnson (6-3, 205; San Diego) is a seventh-year NFL player in 2015. He has played in 29 NFL games, with five starts, passing 96-for-177 (54.2 percent) for 1042 yards, five touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also has a career rushing average of 6.2 yards per carry (44-for-274).

Johnson was on San Francisco’s roster for 13 games last season, inactive for each game. He played in two games (no offensive statistics) while spending the full 2013 season with the Bengals, active for every game as the backup to starter Andy Dalton. He entered the NFL as a fifth-round draft choice of Tampa Bay in 2008 and was with the Bucs through 2011. In 2012, he was with San Francisco in preseason before being released and signed with Cleveland late in the regular season.
