On the final day of the MLB Draft, the Indians had a couple notable picks.

In the 33rd round, Cleveland took Gilmour Academy’s Peter Dolan, who is the son of Indians owner Paul Dolan. The younger Dolan will try to walk on with Michigan’s baseball team next season.

In the next round they took Midview High’s Cody Callaway, who is the son of associate scout Dwayne Callaway. Cody Callaway is committed to play football at Bowling Green.

The Tribe in the 36th round selected Gulf Coast (Fla.) Community College’s Max Bartlett, who is the son of area scout Chuck Bartlett and in the 37th round picked Odessa College catcher Juan Gomes, who is the brother of Indians catcher Yan Gomes.

For Yan Gomes it ended up being a good day. He hit a three-run homer in the Indians 8-3 win over Texas and saw his brother get picked. Juan Gomes was originally selected in the 49th round by the Rangers in 2010.

"I felt like I was the one that got drafted. It was extremely emotional and I’m very happy for him," Yan Gomes told reporters after Saturday’s game. "He’s kind of like how I used to be. He played some infield and outfield in college but got drafted as a catcher."

Director of Amateur Scouting Brad Grant liked what the Indians were able to accomplish with their 42 picks over the three days. Of those picks, 27 played in college and 15 in high school. Pitchers led the way with 19 (15 right-handers) followed by 10 infielders, nine outfielders and four catchers.

"We took a lot of power arms in the back end and had some success in the past in finding bullpen arms. I like how he did with balancing out the college and high school guys," he said.

When asked where first-round pick Bradley Zimmer might begin, Grant said it would probably be Mahoning Valley.
