Colts plan to sign Cribbs
The Indianapolis Colts plan to sign veteran return specialist Joshua Cribbs, two sources with knowledge of the process told FOX Sports Ohio.
Cribbs, 31, flew to Indianapolis and worked out for the team last week but left without a contract. The Colts have not yet confirmed the signing.
Cribbs has been living near Cleveland, where he returned what was then an NFL record eight kickoffs and three punt returns for touchdowns while playing for the Browns from 2005-12. His kick return record has since been tied by Leon Washington.
Cribbs was signed and released by the Oakland Raiders prior to the 2013 season, then played six games with the New York Jets. His last return touchdown came in 2011.
A college quarterback who made the Browns as an undrafted free agent, Cribbs is a three-time Pro Bowler and was first-team All Pro in 2009.
The Colts rank in the bottom 10 of the NFL in punt return average for the season but are 12th in kick return average at 24.1 yards per return. Cribbs was also a very good kick cover man in his time with the Browns.
