Gomes makes Indians playoff debut in Game 3 of World Series
Through 10 games in the postseason, the Indians have ridden the hot bat and great glove of Roberto Perez.
But after Michael Martinez came into pinch run for Perez after a single that led off the seventh, manager Terry Francona had to go to Yan Gomes to catch behind the plate.
Gomes made his first and only plate appearance of the night in the top of the ninth. The pitcher he faced in his return? Aroldis Chapman, who got him to ground out to second.
Before Friday night, the last time Gomes played in a playoff game with the Indians was in the 2013 AL Wildcard game against the Rays.
The Tribe's usual starting catcher has battled through injuries for the past season and a half, including suffering a broken hand on a hit by pitch while rehabbing in Double-A Akron.
However after a speedy recovery, Gomes was able to earn a roster spot on Cleveland's postseason roster.
We have a Michael Martinez sighting in the World Series. Pinch runs for Perez. That means Yan Gomes will get his first WS innings.
