Browns out of consideration for Hard Knocks?

The Cleveland Browns are one of several teams that could be forced to participate in the HBO series Hard Knocks. The Browns have made it clear that they do not want to be part of the series this season, and stated their case to the league during the NFL meetings this winter.

Primary among the reasons for not wanting to appear on the show is concern for quarterback Johnny Manziel who went through a rehabilitation program in the offseason. The Browns are worried what the additional pressure and publicity could do to the second year signal caller.

According to ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi, the team won’t have to worry about the program.

Grossi writes that NFL Films, who produces the Hard Knocks show is not interested in forcing a team to participate and will likely grant the Browns’ request not to participate.

The television program follows a team through training camp in preparation for the upcoming season.

Browns players and coaches have all had positive things to say about Manziel’s attitude and work since leaving the treatment facility.
