The Reds signed to a 1-year contract Thursday free agent RHP Alfredo Simon.

The 34-year-old spent last season in Detroit, where he went 13-12, 5.05 in 31 starts for the Tigers.

This will be his second stint in Cincinnati. In three seasons for the Reds from 2012-2014, Simon went 24-16, 3.16 with 2 saves in 32 starts and 99 relief apps in helping the club to the 2012 NL Central Division championship and 2013 Wild Card playoff.

Simon was traded to the Tigers in exchange for RHP Jonathon Crawford and IF Eugenio Suarez.

He will wear uniform number 31, as he did during his previous stint here.
