Big payday in order for Burfict?

Plenty has been made about the negotiations between the Bengals and quarterback Andy Dalton over a contract extension — but how about linebacker Vontaze Burfict, who’s making less than $1 million a season at the moment?

Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer talked with a former agent, Joel Corry, about how much Burfict could garner on the open market:

"Burfict ranks among the top linebackers in football, which on the open market today would place him in the $9 million per year range, according to Corry. The linebacker would have to discount that number, however, in exchange for receiving his money now."

Burfict started all 16 games last season, tallying 115 tackles and three sacks. Those numbers helped earn him his first trip to Hawaii.

Play like that will earn you a raise so at this point it just seems like a matter of when for the linebacker heading into his third season with the Bengals.
