A former Cleveland Indians great is taking on a new role in the majors.

Manny Ramirez will be part of the Chicago Cubs staff as a hitting consultant, the team announced Tuesday.

Ramirez was a player-coach for the Cubs’ Triple-A affiliate in Iowa last season.

"I’m at the stage of my life and career where I really want to give something back to the game that I love — the game that has meant so much to me and done so much for me and my family," Ramirez said in a statement after taking the Triple-A job last May.

The 42-year-old spent the first eight seasons of his 19-year MLB playing career as a member of the Cleveland Indians.
