Wild recall defenseman Soucy from Iowa

The Minnesota Wild recalled defenseman Carson Soucy from Iowa of the AHL, the team announced Sunday.

Soucy will join a shorthanded Minnesota team that could be without its top two defensemen for some time. Jared Spurgeon has been out since March 13 recovering from a hamstring tear, and Ryan Suter exited Saturday's 4-1 loss to Dallas in the second period after suffering a lower-body injury.

The Wild have not released any further information about the extent of Suter's injury.

Soucy, a fifth-round pick by the Wild in 2013, has yet to make his National Hockey League debut. The 6-foot-4 defenseman tallied one goal and 14 assists in 67 games with Iowa this year, his first professional season.

Soucy played four years at Minnesota-Duluth and registered 47 points in his collegiate career. He signed a two-way contract with the Wild last April after UMD lost 3-2 to Denver in the national championship.
