The Minnesota Wild have claimed Chris Porter off waivers. The 31-year-old forward was previously signed to a one-year, two-way contract with the Philadelphia Flyers. He will wear sweater No. 7 with Minnesota.

The Toronto, Ont., native tallied 27 points in 173 games during parts of six seasons and five points in 15 playoff games with the St. Louis Blues. He recorded two points in 24 regular season games last season with St. Louis.

Porter is a former teammate of Wild forward Zach Parise for two seasons at North Dakota (2002-04) and one season at Shattuck-St. Mary’s (2001-02). The two are friends as well, even attending each other’s weddings.

Porter played four seasons overall at North Dakota, posting 93 points in 175 games and serving as team captain his senior season.
