Vikings sign ex-Gopher Fruechte, waive Colter and Somsel
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings announced three roster moves on Monday. The team signed rookie wide receiver Isaac Fruechte and waived receiver Kain Colter and offensive lineman Jesse Somsel after all three players participated in the team’s rookie minicamp over the weekend.
Fruechte played 38 games in three seasons for the University of Minnesota, including making 18 starts. Last year, the Caledonia, Minn., had 18 receptions for 292 receiving yards and one TD.
Colter, a quarterback at Northwestern who is trying to make the move to receiver in the NFL, was on Minnesota’s practice squad all last season after being signed as an undrafted college free agent. Somsel was signed last week after going undrafted this year out of Saginaw Valley State.
The Vikings held their rookie minicamp for three days last week, and also had several players in town on a tryout basis. Minnesota hasn’t announced any signing following the minicamp but has room after waiving Colter and Somsel.
