A few days after designating him for assignment, the Minnesota Twins have traded Tyler Austin to the San Francisco Giants for minor-league outfielder Malique Ziegler.

Austin, 27, had one hit in two games for the Twins this season: a double that helped Minnesota to a 7-6 win over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday.

Acquired from the New York Yankees last season as part of the Lance Lynn trade, Austin appeared in 35 games for the Twins last season, hitting .236/.294/.488 with 24 RBI and nine home runs.

Austin was designated for assignment Saturday, when the Twins selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Chase De Jong.

Ziegler, 22, split last season between the Arizona Rookie League and the Single-A Augusta GreenJackets, hitting a combined .237/.340/.370 with 18 RBI and four home runs.

A 22nd-round pick in 2016, Ziegler started 2019 with the Single-A Advanced San Jose Giants.
