The Minnesota Twins are reshaping their franchise with an injection of youth and prospects.

Every Thursday for the rest of the season, FOX Sports North will take a closer look at some specific young players -- as well as noting others who might be stepping up -- measuring, highlighting and evaluating their progress.

This is the 17th edition of the 2017 Young Twins Tracker.

Lewin Diaz (age 20/Low-A)

Last week: 6 games, 21 AB, 10 H, 3 2B, 3 R, 5 RBI, 0 SB, 0 BB, 2 K, .476 BA.

Notable: Diaz had three multi-hit games in the last week, including a three-hit, three-RBI effort during Cedar Rapids’ 12-2 win on Aug. 20.

Stephen Gonsalves (age 23/Triple-A)

Last week: 1 game (1 start), 0-1, 3 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 3 BB, 1 K

Notable: After a flawless transition to Triple-A in his first two starts, Gonsalves found his first rough patch at the new level on Aug. 20. He lasted just three innings and allowed three home runs in an ugly 13-6 loss.

Nick Gordon (age 21/Double-A)

Last week: 6 games, 26 AB, 5 H, 0 2B, 0 3B, 4 R, 5 RBI, 0 SB, 3 BB, 8 K, .192 BA.

Season: 111 games, 472 AB, .280 BA, .353 OBP, .424 SLG, .777 OPS, 28 2B, 8 3B, 8 HR, 75 R, 63 RBI, 13 SB, 51 BB, 119 K.

Notable: The average from last week doesn’t look pretty, but Gordon collected a hit in four of six games. He also brought in three runs in Chattanooga’s comeback 12-11 win on Aug. 17 with a walk, hit-by-pitch and a single.

Royce Lewis (age 18/Rookie)

Last week: 6 games, 26 AB, 8 H, 5 R, 8 RBI, 1 SB, 1 BB, 4 K, .308 BA.

Season (Single-A): 10 games, 43 AB, .349 BA, .356 OBP, .442 SLG, .797 OPS, 1 2B, 0 3B, 1 HR, 8 R, 10 RBI, 2 SB, 1 BB, 8 K.

Notable: Lewis recorded his second -- yes, his second – four-hit game at Single-A on Aug. 20. The Twins’ top pick in 2017 also pummeled his first dinger at Single-A on Aug. 21, a three-run shot  to left-center field.

Fernando Romero (age 22/Double-A)

Last week: 1 game (1 start), 0-1, 4 1/3 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 4 BB, 2 K

Season: 23 games (22 starts), 11-8, 3.30 ERA, 120 IP, 115 H, 4 HR, 45 BB, 117 K, .250 OBA, 1.33 WHIP

Notable: Romero had an uncharacteristic, shaky start on Aug. 19. He allowed all six runs in the Lookouts’ 6-4 loss gave up his fourth home run of the season.

Brent Rooker (age 22/Single-A)

Last week: 6 games, 16 AB, 5 H, 2 2B, 2 HR, 7 R, 9 RBI, 6 BB, 3 K, .313 BA.

Season: 34 games, 120 AB, .267 BA, .362 OBP, .508 SLG, .871 OPS, 5 2B, 0 3B, 8 HR, 17 R, 29 RBI, 0 SB, 16 BB, 39 K.

Notable: Rooker smacked two homers for the second straight week and reached base in all seven games. Rooker has at least one RBI in 11 of his last 17 contests.

Kohl Stewart (age 22/Double-A)

Last week: 1 game (1 start), 1-0, 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 5 K

Season (Triple-A): 1 game (1 start), 1-0, 7.20, 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 5 K, .333 OBA, 1.60 WHIP

Season (Double-A): 15 games (15 starts), 5-6, 4.01 ERA, 74 IP, 68 H, 4 HR, 42 BB, 52 K, .250 OBA, 1.49 WHIP

Notable: Stewart was placed on the 7-day disabled list with left knee tendinitis on Aug. 22, just four days after making his Triple-A debut. He earned the win despite giving up four runs in the second inning, but it was enough to give Rochester a 10-4 win. The injury is poor timing for Stewart and may prevent him from getting a September call-up from the Twins.

Others: Felix Jorge, who’s made two starts for the Twins in 2017, earned a promotion to Triple-A Rochester on Aug. 23. He pitched six strong innings in his debut, allowing five hits and no runs while fanning seven hitters and walking one. Jorge wasn’t awarded the win, but the Red Wings scored a run in the seventh inning for a 1-0 triumph over Scranton. … Zack Little, acquired from the Yankees in the Jaime Garcia trade, is 3-0 with a 3.03 ERA through five starts at Double-A. … Single-A first baseman Zander Wiel (2015, Round 12) homered three times in a four-game span, boosting his season total to 12.
