Lynx star Maya Moore named Western Conference Player of the Month

Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore has been named the WNBA’s Western Conference Player of the Month for July.

The team announced the news on Tuesday.

It’s Moore’s first player of the month award this year — the 2015 season is just two months old — and the sixth of her career. This marks the ninth time a Lynx player has been honored. Moore has now won six of the last eight Western Conference Player of the Month awards.

For July, the fifth-year pro averaged 25.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists in nine games, shooting 41.9% on 3-pointers and leading the league in 3s made with 26. Moore has scored at least 20 points in each of her last 11 games, tying Cynthia Cooper for the second-longest such streak in league history.

She was also named the most valuable player of the 2015 WNBA All-Star Game on July 25 after scoring an All-Star Game-record 30 points in the West’s 117-112 victory over the East.
