Gophers edge Mavericks, 1-0, behind strong goaltending
MINNEAPOLIS — Gophers’ goalie Eric Schierhorn recorded a shutout, the sixth of his career, in a 1-0 win over Minnesota State Saturday at Mariucci Arena.
Captain Justin Kloos accounted for the game’s only goal as the No. 7 Gophers split the weekend home-and-home series with the No. 15 Mavericks.
Schierhorn stopped all 23 shots he faced to move to 5-3-2 on the year. The Gophers’ power play goal came in the tightly-contested second period. Minnesota outshot their in-state rival, 38-23.
Maverick netminder Jason Pawloski was solid as well, stopping a career-high 37 shots.
The Gophers next travel to Boston to face Northeastern Nov. 25. The Mavericks have a longer break, hosting Alaska Dec. 2.
