Lynx trade G Rodgers to Liberty; sign free-agent G White
MINNEAPOLIS — The Lynx made a pair of moves Wednesday aimed at shoring up their reserve backcourt.
The defending WNBA champions sent Sugar Rodgers to New York in a sign-and-trade in exchange for the right to swap third-round picks in the 2015 WNBA Draft. The Lynx then inked a free-agent deal with fellow guard Tan white, who spent the past five years of her nine-season career with the Connecticut Sun.
Drafted 14th overall last summer, Rodgers played only sparingly during Minnesota’s run to its second title in three years. The 5-foot-9 3-point specialist hit the occasional triple but averaged just 1.9 points and 7.6 minutes per game in 28 appearances.
White brings much more experience to the table. Heading into her 10th WNBA season, she averages 8.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 22.6 minutes per game.
The Indiana Fever drafted White second overall in 2005. She spent the first four years of her career there before signing with Connecticut as a free agent in 2009.
The Lynx open camp Sunday, April 27 and commence the regular season Friday, May 16 at Washington.
