Gophers defenseman Seeler suspended

Gophers junior Nick Seeler has been suspended for one game by the Big Ten for his hit on St. Cloud State’s Niklas Nevalainen on Sunday.

The 6-foot-3 junior was attempting to win control of the puck along the blue line in the second period, when his outstretched elbow connected with Nevalainen’s head.

The Huskies’ junior lay on the ice for a few minutes following the hit, before being escorted to the locker room, and did not return.

Seeler was assessed a five-minute major penalty on the play for contact to the head, as well as a game misconduct.

SCSU scored twice on the ensuring power play, scoring two goals en route to a 7-4 win.

The suspension will be enforced on Friday, Dec. 4, when the Gophers host Ohio State.
