With the Minnesota Lynx set to unveil a new logo for the 2018 season, FOX Sports North took a look back at all the symbols used to represent collegiate and professional sports in the state. We’ve taken the top 20 and ranked them accordingly (at least in our judgment).
1. Minnesota Timberwolves (1989-96)
It’s hard to beat the O.G. Wolves logo. The geometric look, the green eyes; this thing is a beauty.
2. Minnesota North Stars
Is this the nostalgia talking? Maybe, but there’s something about that bright-green color scheme that makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
3. Minnesota United FC
Who knew that you could make a loon look menacing? That red eye really sells it, and the outstretched wing really popped on their old NASL jerseys.
4. Minnesota Fighting Saints
That mischievous hockey baby is pretty unique. The fake halo is a nice touch. It's not a real halo, because he’s an angel, but he will also mess you up.
5. Minnesota Moose
There’s something quintessentially '90s about this smug hockey moose. He’s even got a funny little moose soul patch, more evidence that he was designed back when Smash Mouth was a big deal.
6. Minnesota Twins
The “T.C.” is cool, and the “M” is too, but that image of Minny and Paul shaking hands over the Mississippi is iconic. It’s also just wholesome and kitschy enough to be a purely Minnesotan creation.
7. Minnesota Kicks
Minnesota's original pro soccer team had a logo that absolutely embodied the '70s. Just look at it.
8. Minneapolis Lakers
Powder blue and gold is always a winning color scheme. At least Los Angeles didn’t take that with them.
9. Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings' logo has looked pretty much the same since the '60s. Don't mess with a good thing.
10. University of Minnesota Golden Gophers
Being known by one letter is a pretty cool distinction. We're still not sure about the boat thing.
11. University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs
You know, the Bulldogs might actually make better use of the maroon and gold color scheme than the G- *mob begins beating us with oars*.
12. Minnesota Timberwolves (2017-Present)
The green eyes are back!
13. Minnesota Wild
Is it a bear? A wolf? A large cat? Who knows, but like their mascot, this thing is unmistakably Minnesotan.
14. Minnesota Timberwolves (1996-2017)
We'll be honest here: Our love for the '80s logo is keeping this one out of the top 10.
15. Minnesota Lynx (1999-2017)
Honestly, we're kind of afraid of Prowl, their mascot.
16. St. Paul Saints
They recently sold hats that used the team's name to form a pig, and have a pig mascot. This season's pig is named "Alternative Fats." Winner.
17. Bemidji State Beavers
Between their color scheme (green), their location (on a lake) and their mascot (a beaver), BSU is very, very committed to the "up north" bit. We can respect that.
18. Minnesota State, Mankato Mavericks
A Maverick is either an unbranded cow, a nonconformist or a Tom Cruise character, depending on who you ask.
19. Minnesota State, Moorhead Dragons
Dragons are in right now. If you get HBO, that is.
20. St. Cloud State Huskies
We love you St. Cloud, we really do. But somebody had to come in last. Try not to think about it.
